Hi Aelf Crew,
I went to the Stone Forest in Kunming and for me personally, this was one of the best days out I had in China. Whilst Temples are impressive, I had seen a lot of them by this point in my trip so a new natural beauty was a breath of fresh air.
Perhaps a reason I enjoyed it so much was it wasn’t busy at all! For those who have been following along to my tales, the first portion of my trip was during a bank holiday week and by the time of my trip to the Stone Forest, this was now over which was a refreshing day out – being able to walk rather than shuffle was a welcomed change.
I found it very therapeutic to wander around within the rocks. Unfortunately, the signs were all in Chinese and the signal wasn’t particularly great, so getting lost was quite easy. Even the signs that did have an English translation were sometimes more confusing than helpful:
Fortunately for me, a young man came up to me to practice his English (being obviously European looking, I did of course standout like a sore thumb throughout the Far East). He told me he knew a route off the beaten path with stunning views. Perhaps naively, I went with him alone. Thankfully he did actually just want to show me the views but that said, top tip from Aelfgifu: try not to wander off with random men you’ve met to areas they have told you are more quiet (and therefore potentially more dangerous for you). Another top tip from Aelfgifu: always carry water with you. An easy reason to encourage you to wander off with random men could come from them claiming to know where to buy water and leading you there.
Despite my best efforts at being unsafe (and questionable judgements), I would thoroughly recommend this natural beauty if you’re in Kunming – I insert photos below of how amazing it was:

Peace and Love,
Aelfgifu
